| Electrocardiogram unit
delivered to hospital in Khoja-Baldeen. |

On
November 7, 2001, a new electrocardiogram unit was delivered
to the hospital in Khoja-Baldeen. This donation was made possible
by joint efforts of Partners International Foundation, Knightsbridge
International, Afghanistan Relief International, and TzuChi
Foundation. These non-government organizations combined their
knowledge and efforts to complete this operation.
This receiving clinic is managed by a doctor
who is a trained cardiologist; but the clinic does not have
an electrocardiogram unit. The doctor assured that the donated
equipment would be used immediate to save lives. The doctors
in this clinic are amazingly proficient, performing sophisticated
operation with a minimum amount of equipment, little power,
makeshift recovery rooms in tents, and a very sporadic supply
of medicines.
A
week earlier, Knightsbridge International, Afghanistan Relief
International, and Tzu Chi Foundation had delivered over $8,000
in medicines and supplies to this hospital.
Since this delivery, representatives of
Northern Afghanistan have explained to us the extreme need
for medical equipment throughout the entire country. As donations
like this one demonstrate the possibility of delivering equipment
reliably to under-equipped hospitals in Afghanistan, we hope
that more medical equipment from the rest of the world would
be put to use for the people in this country.
