When one is struck by leukemia, a bone marrow transplant may be the last resort to save his/her life. For such patients, time runs out quickly and a compatible donor match must be found as soon as possible.

Since 1994, Tzu Chi has held numerous bone marrow blood test drives to encourage Asians to join the Tzu Chi Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Tzu Chi has also organized various seminars and promotions to provide the public with bone marrow and cancer information.

Tzu Chi's Bone Marrow Donor Registry was established in October 1993 and within two years contained 100,000 bone marrow donors. Today it is the third largest bone marrow registry in the world and the largest in Asia.
