The Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association was
established on May 31, 1992, with the objectives of upholding
the Buddha's spirit of kindness, compassion, joy and unselfish
giving, activating good conscience and altruism, and cultivating
modern youth. Master Cheng Yen hopes that the Tzu Chi Youth members
can spread the Tzu Chi spirit in their schools in order to purify
school campuses. Association members usually use their free time
after class to participate in Tzu Chi activities.
The Collegiate Youth Association symbolizes
the rejuvenation of Tzu Chi. The human resources provided by the
network of college students will provide fresh blood for the Tzu
Chi missions.
In the association's logo, a pair of hands
holding a "heart lamp" represents the hope that the
col-legiate youth will bring the Tzu Chi spirit of gratitude and
appreciation of blessings to their cam-puses. We hope they will
become a stream of purity, passing their light from one "heart
lamp" to the next.
The association anthem contains the lines:
"We are the bodhisattvas of the Tzu Chi Youth, and we take
on the Buddha's mission; we are the bodhisattvas of the Tzu Chi
Youth, and we inherit the history of Tzu Chi." This is the
role that the Tzu Chi Youth play in the great family of Tzu Chi.
