The Tzu Cheng/Yi Te Association was organized
at the Tzu Chi Junior College of Nursing for the sake of activating
the students' altruism and conscience and to nurture the spirit
of fundamental concern for humanity, respect for all life, and
care toward all living beings. Here, every eight to ten students
are assigned a Tzu Cheng "father" and two Yi Te "mothers"
or "sisters," selected personally by the Master Cheng
Yen, who educate the students on proper conduct and on matters
of morals and virtues, as well as counseling the students through
psychological or emotional difficulties. They play the roles of
concerned friends, caring listeners, and counselors.
Currently the Tzu Cheng Yi Te Association has
been combined with the Student Counseling Center. There are individual
counseling rooms, conference rooms, and group counseling rooms,
which form a unique style of counseling.
The roles for the interactions between
the students, the college, and the Tzu Cheng Yi Te Association
have been defined as: like hosts and guests, like mothers and
sisters, like fathers and brothers, and like teachers and friends.
