Tzu Chi humanities classes were designed as
required courses for students at the Tzu Chi Nursing College and
Medical School to help students there better understand the missions
and spirit of Tzu Chi.
The two units contain a history of the founding
of Tzu Chi and its spirit of humanitarianism. Through various
lectures and activities, they introduce the missions, development,
social impact, and ethics of Tzu Chi from the perspective of culture
and the humanities.
The objectives of these courses include gaining
insight into the karmic causes that lead to the creation of Tzu
Chi, understanding the history and meaning behind the Tzu Chi
missions, transcending physical and material contributions to
attain true empathy for the suffering and impoverished, manifesting
the wisdom of equanimity, and cultivating a spirit of compassion,
mercy, joy, and generous giving.
