The Tzu Chi Companion Benefactors Association
was founded in 1986 with the following objectives: 1) to carry
on the work of the Pu Men Publishing Company in printing Buddhist
publications; 2) to give a new look to Buddhist publications;
3) to support the Tzu Chi mission of culture; and 4) to alleviate
the burden of the foundation's other activities, such as building
hospitals, helping the poor, etc.
Master Cheng Yen said: "Modern society
needs to be purified, and purifying society depends on our cultural
work. Therefore, of the four Tzu Chi missions [charity, medicine,
education and culture], cultural work is extremely important."
The Tzu Chi Companion Benefactors Association is the force behind
the scenes that supports and promotes this immense undertaking.
The Benefactors Association promotes the
Buddhist teachings by providing to the public free of charge
the Tzu Chi Companion Biweekly newspaper, other books and periodicals,
radio broadcasts, etc. These would be impossible without the
support of the members of the Benefactors Association.
