In the cold winter night, Traffic
Division Team Two at Jinmei Xinglong had some visitors. They
were Tzu Chi volunteers bringing hot soup and vegetarian buns
for the policemen. The division head kept saying, "This
is a blessing!" A policeman also prepared a pot of hot
tea for the visitors. The volunteers in return performed a
sign language song for them. It was one in the morning when
they finally departed. The volunteers had another date with
the policemen to bring them some refreshing soup the next
day.
Touched is not enough: take action!
This drill was held from January 8 until
February 6, regardless of the weather and time. The policemen
had sacrificed their New Year time with their families just
to protect the community. Tzu Chi volunteers showed their
appreciation to the policemen and firemen in both urban and
rural areas by bringing them fruit, hot meals, Still Thoughts
cards, and other little gifts.
A policeman held a fruit basket and a small
card with words of blessing: "Society will be more harmonious
if there are more people like our Tzu Chi volunteers."
"Thank you for visiting and caring for us at this time.
It really relieves the tension!"
There is a popular Tzu Chi aphorism which
says, "Turn your affections into actions." A year
ago, a policeman was actually moved by Tzu Chi volunteers
to become a full-time volunteer himself. Other policemen decided
to donate part of their salaries to help.
January 19 is Firemen's Day in Taiwan. Even
some firemen forgot about this festival, and it was the arrival
of Tzu Chi volunteers that reminded them. Hualien volunteers
brought firemen some chocolates on which were written "blessings
and wisdom" to bless the firemen in their difficult jobs.
