The devastating tragedy in America has shocked and saddened the entire world. On behalf of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation and our volunteers around the world, I would like to convey our deepest condolences to our friends in America. Though we are in Taiwan, we too are deeply pained. We sincerely pray that your hearts may soon find peace and solace, and that you will regain the strength to stand up again. At this critical time, Tzu Chi volunteers around the world wish to offer our help. We hope that kindness may heal wounds. From the time our U.S. volunteers knew of the disaster, we have been supporting the relief effort around the clock. It is our hope that our assistance not only helps to meet needs, but more importantly, helps to soothe the pain in your hearts. With time, we trust the suffering will pass. However long that may be, we hope to stay beside you and walk with you. "Let love and understanding dissolve the past, let compassion and appreciation rebuild our future." It will take "Great Love," love that transcends all boundaries of religion, race, and ethnicity, to heal the pain, break the cycle of hatred, and bring peace to the world. Let us join together to heal our wounds-you, me, and all Tzu Chi volunteers around the world. May we act with only unconditional love, not fear nor anger. May we be a source of love and peace to one another. May we begin a cycling of kindness in this world. With courage, with understanding, and most importantly with love, may we overcome this tragedy together and let our future days be filled with peace and harmony. Shih Cheng Yen
