Conference on PACS Development
Reported from the Department of Medical Mission Development,
Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation.
(Translated by Yan Huang, Northern California)
The Picture Archiving and Communication System
(PACS) is a modern trend in medical technology. It provides
each diagnostic center and medical team within hospitals the
most efficient way of transmitting examination information in
a digital mode through the computer network, thus saving time
from unnecessary filming processing. Having recently developed
its PACS system, the Hualien Tzu Chi General Hospital, in conjunction
with the Tzu Chi Medical Center and Dalin Tzu Chi General Hospital,
will hold a conference named "The Experience of Development
in Picture Archiving and Communication System" on May 19.
All associated medical personnel who are interested in attending
this informative event are welcome to register.
The PACS technology is especially advantageous
for remote hospitals and clinics. It helps them receive and
transfer radiography (such as X-rays) and CT (Computed Tomography,
a more sophisticated application of X rays) images and pictures
through a digitally transmitted network. Thus the development
of PACS makes remote diagnosis and consultation possible.
All Tzu Chi hospitals have already adopted
the PACS system and have gained a great deal of experience in
its use, which they wish to share with others in the medical
field. The upcoming teleconference will be held concurrently
in the Hualien Tzu Chi Medical Center and Dalin Hospital on
May 19. Besides these two host facilities, other regional hospitals
and medical centers will also join in. In the morning, there
will be lectures regarding PACS implementation by speakers from
Hsiaokung Hospital in Kaohsiung, Chungshen Hospital in Taichung,
Tzu Chi General Hospital in Hualien, and Tungren Hospital in
Hsintien. In the afternoon, there will be a tour of the Tzu
Chi General Hospital, mainly to introduce the radiology department
and their clinical use of PACS.
Please join us at the Tzu Chi Medical Center
and Dalin General Hospital on May 19. The conference runs from
9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The registration fee is NT$500.00 per person.
Deadline for registration is May 9. Please contact 03-8561825
ext. 3490 or 3390.
