South African Tzu Chi Member Visits
Taiwan
(Translated by Mike Lee, Northern California)
Despite the pain of a wounded nose, 76-year-old
Dolly Mokoka, a South African native who has devoted herself
to taking care of the blind ever since her retirement, traveled
to Taiwan to visit the spiritual home of Tzu Chi.
For Dolly, who came all the way from Soweto,
South Africa, to take part in World Tzu Chi Day, visiting Taiwan
has been her greatest wish ever since 1998, when she wove a
lasting friendship with South African Tzu Chi members by helping
out during a fund-raising event for local blind people. After
becoming acquainted with Tzu Chi people, she joined this great
loving family. In particular, she was deeply touched by the
spirit of Great Love that was exemplified by the regular distribution
of relief supplies to the blind on the third weekend of every
month.
From "Hallelujah" to "Amitabha,"
the compassion of Tzu Chi reaches beyond the boundaries of religion,
inspiring even devout Christians so much that they willingly
travel across the vast ocean to come and bear witness to this
Great Love.
