HUALIEN, Taiwan - Novemthree from Batam
Island of Indonesia has safely passed the swollen-tissue stage
after his tumor surgery. He was fed through gastrostomy starting
April 5, and his stitches will be removed the same week. The
second stage of his road to recovery,
jaw surgery, will take place two to three weeks after his
stitches are removed.
Dr. Chang said that Novemthree's wound
has healed well. Novemthree had suffered from minor erythema,
which is a natural side effect of surgery. Bleeding stopped
on Saturday, signaling Novemthree's safe recovery. To further
celebrate this milestone, his drainage siphon will be removed
on April 6.
Since last Saturday, Novemthree has wanted
to sit up instead of lie down in bed. He even asked to sit
up to watch television. The Children Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
has made an exception for him to watch TV, videotapes, and
listen to the stereo. Everyday around 3 to 4 p.m., Novemthree
would enthusiastically get up to watch TV. The medical staff
of the CICU said that his energy has recovered with amazing
speed.
Before
the first stage of surgery, Novemthree looks at himself through
the video camera.
After
the first stage of surgery, the left side of Novemthree's
face has improved visibly.
