Flood in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - An hour's worth
of heavy rain was all it took to flood Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Over 200 households were damaged in the worst flood that occurred
since last year. Tzu Chi volunteers mobilized from neighboring
Malacca to arrive that night, giving relief to shocked residents.
Volunteers did everything from distributing food and water,
to helping clean residents' homes.
At 11 pm on April 22nd, heavy rain fell
on Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, resulting in a flood that ranged
from 60 to 120 centimeters high. It was the largest flood
since Old Klang Road's reconstruction last year, and many
residents escaped to higher ground. Tzu Chi volunteers and
Red Cross Members surveyed the area that night.
The next day, 174 Tzu Chi volunteers in
Melaka went to help clean the flood area, where they found
the belongings of over 200 families covered in mud and water.
Tzu Chi volunteers cleaned day and night, and provided over
1,100 boxes of food and 760 bottles of water for residents,
as well as 400 packages of rice the next day.
