Sandakan, Malaysia - The first
event to be held by the Tzu Chi Children Development School
in 2006 happened at 2pm on January 22nd.
The event started
with a skit called "Lifesaving Bag". It was about
a girl who, although not very intelligent, had a kind heart.
All the performers in the skit were
teachers and volunteers in the Tzu Chi Teachers' Association.
Following the skit
was a report about Middle South Malaysia for 2005. It gave
the students a clearer picture about Tzu Chi's four missions
(Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture).

deeds" tree.
After the report, a drawing class was taught by Chien-Wen
Liang. Chen-Wen is a famous cartoonist and also a teacher
in Tzu-Chi's Teachers' Association. Chien-Wen first used different
pigments to teach the students how to draw. Then, the students
were divided into groups of five and worked together to draw
a "good deeds" tree within ten minutes. A sign language
performance titled "Happy Friends" was then presented
and taught to the students.

At the end of the
event, the students accompanied the volunteers to a senior
home and a home for children with special needs. Their goal
was to deliver red envelopes and oranges, both representing
good luck for Chinese, to the residents before the Chinese
New Year. In the senior home, the students talked with and
sang to the elders and sometimes gave them a massage. Their
company made the seniors smile joyfully. The fifteen special-needs
children all said "Thank you" when they received
the red envelopes and oranges from the students. The event
ended successfully around 4:30 pm.
