Distribution Activity

"Back To School"
Project, carried out by Tzu Chi volunteers & local Food
Bank has been continued for 3 years.
On August 16, they worked together to distribute
food items to children before their school opening. More than
20 volunteers & Food Bank staff gathered before 8 AM to
prepare for the event. Distribution activity started around
9 o'clock. As in previous practice, the event was carried
out in an orderly manner.
Local food bank is one of the main voluntary workstations
for Tzu Chi. Tzu Chi volunteers are doing their service every
Wednesday. In response to the high quality performance, Food
Bank had invited about 15 volunteers weekly, for a 4-hour
service.
Food Bank manager, Marilyn, said, although other voluntary
organizations also participated, she preferred Tzu Chi because
of their smile and good service attitude.
Hair-cutting is one of the most popular
activities during the event. Children and their parents enjoyed
this service very much. Madam Christy brought along her two
daughters for hair-cuts after receiving food and stationeries.
She appreciated the weekly voluntary service, as this became
an encouragement for her children.
The number of volunteers is about 60 and
the number of sponsored families is 150 still increasing.
Other local charity groups had also invited
Tzu Chi to their activities. Fraser Health, which is doing
free dental service for children under 12 years old, invited
Tzu Chi volunteers to help distribute the toothpastes &
brushes.
