Updates 2: Tzu Chi relief actions in Philippines
for Typhoon Durian victims on 13 Dec 2006
After two days of relief efforts in Albay
province, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines continue its relief
actions for the Typhoon Durian victims. So far, over 2,100
families and 2,500 patients have benefited.
On the 13th December, Tzu Chi volunteers
held distributions in Legaspi city and Malabog district in
Dargaran. In Legaspi city, 550 families received Tzu Chi relief
pack, while in Malabog 298 families benefited. Each relief
pack contains 10 kg rice, mosquito net, blankets, plastic
sheets, cloth, pots, buckets, cups, cutleries, soap, instant
noodle, sugar, slippers and umbrella.
Tzu Chi volunteers are currently preparing
the water purifying equipments. It is estimated to arrive
at Dargaran within the week.
On this last day of free clinic, 1,451
patient were treated: 110 ophthalmic cases, 646 paediatric
cases , 637 cases of internal medicine and 58 surgical cases.
Ten patients were accompanied by Tzu Chi volunteers to the
local public hospital for further treatments.
Expressing their gratitude, many patients
felt comforted by the warm gestures and kindness of the Tzu
Chi volunteers. Many were made aware of the free clinics through
words of mouth.
Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines is currently
evaluating possible housing plan for the Typhoon victims.
