Relief mission continues: three containers
of relief supplies scheduled to arrive in Afghanistan in late
June
HUALIEN, Taiwan -- Tzu Chi relief mission
in Afghanistan is currently underway.
Since April 23, relief supplies donated
by overseas Chinese and charity groups have been flowing steadily
into the Tzu Chi branch office in Houston, Texas. Three cargo
containers filled with supplies are scheduled to be shipped
out on the May 6 and arrive in Afghanistan at the end of June.
The coordinator of the Texas branch office,
Xiong Shi Ming, points out that these supplies, including
blankets and medical supplies provided by the Tzu Chi USA
headquarters in Los Angeles, represent the love of Tzu Chi
members from across the United States. Particularly worthy
of note, Knightsbridge International, an international relief
organization that has worked with Tzu Chi on many occasions,
donated two sets of solar ovens to be delivered to a girls'
school in Afghanistan. Since electricity and other resources
are scarce, they can only rely on solar power to cook their
food.
Two containers of relief supplies were
collected by the Texas branch. They contain jackets donated
by the international rescue organization Norvasen, over 20,000
pairs of jeans and t-shirts given by Chinese immigrants in
Dallas, office supplies provided by The Friends of Afghanistan
Redevelopment, medical equipment donated by Remedy Charity
Organization, clothes and blankets from local Chinese residents,
and socks and sleeping bags provided by the Tzu Chi Texas
branch.
Due to the enormous amount of the
relief supplies, many people came to help out when they passed
by the Still Thoughts Hall and saw volunteers packing the
materials. Some even sacrificed personal free time before
and after work for many days straight to come and help pack.
The leader of the Texas branch international relief group,
Hsu Yong-Ming, expressed sincere gratitude for the efforts
and money that everyone contributed to ensure the prompt and
successful delivery of these relief supplies.
