After a marvelous performance by the
Taiwanese Traditional Music Association, the morning program
came to an end. The school principle invited the guests
to a buffet lunch, which had vegetarian and non-vegetarian
areas. The non-vegetarian section started first, but the
vegetarian dishes would come a little late.
All of a sudden, the sound of flute
and singing came from the corridor. Some Tzu Chi volunteers
had taken the chance to set up a mini-concert. A group
of volunteers surrounded Chen-ching Liu, who was playing
the flute. They took out the Tzu Chi music selection and
played the songs one by one. They turned a thirty-minute
wait into fun-filling music time. When they finished the
piece "Three Sincere Wishes", the vegetarian
dishes were all ready.
Volunteers from central Taiwan came
not only to celebrate the school's reopening, but also
brought the full set of Hope Project posters. They always
remembered to introduce more people to Tzu Chi, to understand
Tzu Chi, and join the Tzu Chi family. In my two years
of working in Tzu Chi, I realized that work was enjoyable
to them, and the way they enjoyed themselves was to work
and contribute. Each one of them sacrificed personal enjoyment
while enjoying their personal sacrifice. Their spirit
touched people who got to know them.
When I was taking pictures for this
impromptu music concert, a volunteer gave me her camera
and asked me to take a picture for them. Of course, I
was happy to be at the service of Tzu Chi people whom
I admired.
