Groundbreaking ceremony for Tzu Chi's "Project Hope"
Helping to rebuild schools after the 2003 Bam (Iran) Earthquake

Tzu Chi volunteers mindfully practiced the values of Tzu Chi Culture in every aspect of preparation. Volunteers, wearing Tzu Chi's blue and white uniforms, raised Tzu Chi flags under the setting Persian sun.

With "Hope for the Future", a Tzu Chi song, playing in the background, a procession of Tzu Chi volunteers entered the groundbreaking ceremony.


Three hundred Iranian government officials, teachers and students attended the groundbreaking ceremony.


A child solemnly recited verses from the Koran.


High school students sang the Iranian National Anthem and wished for a speedy completion to Tzu Chi's school reconstruction project.


In keeping with Iranian tradition, the ranking government official was the first to break ground.


Spreading the "seeds of love" in Iran. Five Tzu Chi flags were raised on the groundbreaking mound to symbolize the five schools Tzu Chi pledged to rebuild. The Iranian national flag was raised in front of the mound as a respect to the country.


Tzu Chi volunteers and the government officials broke ground. Tzu Chi volunteers vow to purify the mind, harmonize society and create a world free of disasters.


Iran's government officials were delighted to join Tzu Chi volunteers in this groundbreaking ceremony.


After groundbreaking, government officials, the school principal and VIPs happily took a photo with Tzu Chi volunteers in front of architect's renditions of the future schools.


Children smiled adorably.


Mr. Palafox, the Philippine architect, gladly explained his school design to the principal.
