  • supported Red Cross blood drive
  • NY/NJ area Tzu Chi International Medical Association members on standby
  • NJ chapter distributed 7200 bottles of drinking water, food and blankets/sleeping bags for 200 people to two shelters.
  • NY chapter gathered food and drinking water, ready for distribution as needed
  • main office set up 24-hour hotline for assistance requests
  • began fundraising for disaster relief

  • press release on establishment of disaster relief fund
  • supported rescue operations by providing ice water and medical supplies
  • began supporting the Broadway, East River and Javic Center relief stations set up by the Red Cross in NYC
  • collect blood donor information and arrange donation schedule on behalf of the Red Cross

September 13
  • acquired permit to enter ground zero
  • all rescuers and Tzu Chi volunteers temporarily evacuated from ground zero due to structural instability of nearby buildings
  • TIMA members called in to treat victims
  • established teams of volunteers to care for victims' families as well as provide financial aid

  • temperature in NY droped; volunteers delivered hot soup to rescue workers
  • delivered 250 servings of dinner to St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan
  • main office started receiving overflow blood donation calls for Red Cross
