Day 2 - Tzu Chi New York Chapter
Continues Relief Work
| 1. |
A volunteer at Tzu Chis
New York chapter is still missing. Tzu Chi has already
sent volunteers to provide support and care to his wife
and family. |
| 2. |
Red Cross has set up
16 relief stations in disaster area at Manhattan. Red
Cross has also invited Tzu Chis New York chapter
to support 3 of the stations.
(1) The first station is on Broadway, near Chinatown.
(2) The second station is at East River, near 4th Street
(3) The third station is at Javic Center.
The volunteers brought 50 cases of bottled water (each
case contains 24 bottles) and 150 vegetarian lunches along
with them. On the way, they received the news that St.Vincent
Hospital needed water, so they decided to stop by to provide
support. However, due to tight security control, they
only reached Javic Center. They visited the Red Cross
headquarter there, and expressed Tzu Chis wish to
help out. Red Cross replied that if they need additional
help, they will definitely contact Tzu Chi.
20 volunteers are currently on their way back. They are
all safe now. |
| 3. |
The disaster area is still
under tight security control; it is difficult to enter
the area. New York volunteers are patient and determined
in continuing their efforts. |
| 4. |
Police have discovered
a bomb at New Yorks Subway Line 7; they are taking
care of it right now. |
| 5. |
There are not as many
patients at hospitals in disaster area because most of
them probably died during the collapse of Twin Towers. |
| 6. |
Red Cross has told Tzu
Chi that they need doctors. Tzu Chi will arrange for this
as soon as possible. |
