Day 5 - Tzu Chi USA News Update

9/14 10:00 p.m. EST
New York

Between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. New York time, a total of 10 Tzu Chi volunteers from the New York Chapter and Long Island office drove two cars and delivered hot food to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan. The volunteers delivered 250 hot dinners as well as 70 gallons of hot soup.

New York

Teams of New York Chapter volunteers headed to Elmhurst Hospital and Downtown Hospital to care for those injured as soon as they received the a list of specific names.

9/15 2:30 p.m. EST
New York

A team of 20 Tzu Chi volunteers from the New York Chapter and Long Island Office went to a shelter in Manhattan to care for 25 people temporarily displaced from their homes. The volunteers gave out blankets, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Those staying at the shelter were grateful to the Tzu Chi volunteers.

9/15 5:30 p.m. EST
New York

Once again, Tzu Chi volunteers ventured into the disaster area to deliver dinner and hot soup to rescue workers at ground zero. Rescue workers included fire fighters and Salvation Army staff. Tzu Chi volunteers delivered a total of 120 servings of hot soup and 50 servings of chow mien.

U.S. Main Office
So far, as of 6:00 p.m. PST tonight, the U.S. main office has received 27 requests to locate family members and friends.
