Day 7- Tzu Chi USA News Update

1.

At 9pm last night 6 Tzu Chi volunteers distributed 120 servings of hot food to rescue workers, military personnel and police officers at ground zero.

2. The Salvation Army notified Tzu Chi New York to progressively pull out of the disaster area and requested Tzu Chi New York's support in follow-up relief and counseling.
3.

Japanese and Cantonese interpreters are urgently needed; there is a large number of Japanese victims. Japanese and Cantonese speakers who would like to volunteer please contact Tzu Chi New York Chapter at (718)460-4590.

4. Tzu Chi U.S.A. CEO Austin Tsao and Tzu Chi Southern California Directore of Social Services sister Tzu Lun took a morning flight out of LA and will arrive at the MacArthur International Airport in Islip, NY in the evening. Brother Chi Yee Lin will arrange for brother Tsao and sister Tzu Lun to visit the disaster site immediately upon their arrival.
5. Ground zero updates:
- The controlled area south of 14th Street has been changed to the area south of Canal Street. The secured area has been reduced to the zone south of Chambers Street, north of Rector Street and west of Broadway.
- No pedestrian access is allowed in the areas south of Canal Street, north of Chambers Street and the area south of Rector Street and west of Broadway.
- Pedestrian access is by mass transit only in the area east of Broadway and south of Canal Street.

6. The NYC Family Assistance Center has relocated from the Armory to Pier 94 at 54th Street and 12th Avenue.


Candlelight Vigil
Tzu Chi Southern California held a vigil on 9/15 for the disaster. Candle light and prayer ribbons expressed our wish of infinite blessings for the victims and their families.
