The return home

In 645 A.D., Hsuan Tsang returned to Chang¡¦an, the capital of the Tang Empire, bringing back 657 volumes of Buddhist scripture. For the following 20 years, he stayed in the capital translating the scriptures. He also dictated a journal of his travels entitled The Journey to the West in the Tang Dynasty. His achievements were remarkable, and he was lauded as a "extraordinary Chinese scholar."
