Journey to the West on the Silk Road
A photographic chronicle retracing Hsuan Tsang's heroic 7th century voyage

These were the ruins of the destroyed thoroughfare at the southern section of the Silk Road during the Han dynasty. Chang Chien and Pan Chao of the Han dynasty as well as Buddhist monks such as Fa Hsien and Hsuan Tsang used this pass to travel between the east and west. (Photograph by Michael Siu)
