The Thousand-Buddha Cave in Kizik, Kuche, is one of the large-scale Buddhist caves in western China. After Muslims invaded Xinjiang, the cave was damaged and the statues inside the cave were all destroyed. The sculpture in front of the cave is the renowned Kumarajiva. (Photograph by Michael Siu)
