Student Essay Contest
We will also be holding an essay contest throughout the entire exhibition, and we encourage students from elementary, middle, and high schools to enter. Students can choose from the following four topics:
  (1) What have you learned about Hsuan Tsang, and in what ways has he inspired you to pursue your goals?
  (2) Hsuan Tsang visited many kingdoms and learned about many different cultures. Talk about a time where you tried to learn about someone else's culture and how this experience affected you.
  (3) Hsuan Tsang encountered many challenges during his journey. What is the biggest challenge that you have encountered and how did you overcome it?
  (4) Hsuan Tsang's journey to the west went through many unknown territories at the time. Please write about a country that Hsuan Tsang met and why it interests you.

Please keep the essay length to 1 - 2 pages. Essays will be judged on the student's understanding of Hsuan Tsang, quality of writing, and creativity by a committee of judges. For our prizes, we will be offering iPods for our top three winners!

To enter, please include the your name, school, grade, phone number, and email on the first page. Deadline for entries is December 19, 2005. We will notify the winners by January 31, 2006.

Please email entries to jwest.essays@gmail.com, or by mail:
